The ‘Get Your Rest’ series is inspired by my own need to let go, my own desire to chase my fears, and recognition of the level of creativity I’ve been blessed with. It is said that it takes 21 days to form a habit. Well, I’m taking 21 pieces to form a new lifestyle. I’m looking to heal, to be better at and quicker to forgive, and to go after everything that’s meant for me. Rest, in this case, is not laying down. It’s finally standing up. It’s establishing boundaries. It’s a pursuit of peace. It’s alignment. I’m sharing stories of rest and vibrant visuals to encourage us all and serve as reminders that rest is a necessity and not a luxury. I want peace that surpasses understanding. I want rest. I want that for you too.

Get your rest.

Get Your Rest #3

The artwork features a woman with her hands in the position of surrender with emphasis on her open hands – both ready to receive and ready to give. It is a peaceful submission. It is a surrender to purpose and intention. Visually, it is also meant to represent a return to my inner child for the purpose of healing that child before moving forward. This is expressed through the style and playfulness of the flowers in her shirt.

Get Your Rest #5

Get Your Rest #6

The message behind #5 and #6 is to “Honor the Process”. Embrace all of what makes you, you. Be gentle with yourself. Have mercy on yourself. Heal. The women in these portraits are wearing the process “on their sleeve”. The design of the shirt is inspired by my own process when I create, which includes color swatches, notes to myself, rough sketches, and shapes & colors left on my palette. These are things you typically wouldn’t see, but are crucial to the finished work. Here, I bring it to the forefront. I honor it. This parallels the message of finding peace through self-acceptance.

Get your rest.
