Get Your Rest #1
Exhibited and SOLD at the 2022 Wearable Art Gala in support of the WACO Theatre, founded by Richard and Tina Lawson.
2022, 36 x 48 inches, Acrylic on canvas
The ‘Get Your Rest’ series is inspired by my own need to let go, my own desire to chase my fears, and recognition of the level of creativity I’ve been blessed with. The artwork features a woman with her hands in the position of surrender with emphasis on her open hands – both ready to receive and ready to give. It is a peaceful submission. It is a surrender to purpose and intention. Visually, it is also meant to represent a return to my inner child for the purpose of healing that child before moving forward. This is expressed through the style and playfulness of the flowers in her shirt. I want peace that surpasses understanding. I want rest. I want that for you too.

Get Your Rest #5
2023, 16 x 20 inches, Acrylic on paper
The ‘Get Your Rest’ series is inspired by my own need to let go, my desire to heal, my desire to chase my fears, and recognition of the level of creativity I’ve been blessed with. This artwork features a woman with a blazer that reflects some parts of my actual creation process. The shapes on the sleeve and collar are inspired by shapes found on some of my dried paint palettes. The other areas of the blazer are inspired by color swatches I create to figure out my color story. I leave little notes on which colors I mixed and which I like the most…and there are always random and/or meaningful doodles. I also included (separate) the rough sketch of this piece that I colored in on my phone. This is the part of my process you don’t typically see, but it is crucial to the completion of the finished piece. This rest is about grace and mercy for yourself. Acknowledging all of what makes you, you. Acknowledging what is behind the scenes. It’s about trial and error. It’s about going through it and growing through it. The process can be messy. The process can get complicated. The process can be beautiful. These visuals honor that unseen part of the story.
Honor the process.
